Description |
The Argus 75 was introduced in 1958. It is almost identical to the early Argus Seventy-Five. The only differneces are cosmetic. The body is still plastic but brown instead of black. The list price for the Argus 75 in the early 1960s was $10.95; the flash gun and case were extra. However, you could buy the full kit including the camera, flash gun and gaurd, case, portrait lens, film, batteries, flashbulbs, and portait album for $18.95. There was also a cream-colored variant contemplated by the company. It is unknown whether it made it to production. The only known example, which is only a protoype, is on display in the museum. The Argus 75 ended up being the last twin lens camera made by Argus after popularity declined. Kodak also introduced the Kodapak cartridge and the Instamatic camera in 1963 which destroyed the TLR market. Argus pivoted and started marketing 126 cartridge cameras, thought they never manufactured any and instead imported them. Rectangular upright camera, Argus Seventy-five. Silver and brown. Sides are brown, and ribbed. Middle is silver, with decorative dots. Lenses are black. Top has silver door which opens to large viewfinder. Brown cloth strap. |
